Mœbius
Old writer at work.
Trying to get more expression into a character’s face.
Cortoesque.
Characters on strike.
I’m stuck inside of a moment where I just don’t know what to do next. I have plenty of stories waiting to be told, characters waiting to have a chance, but I have no idea how or when will I be able to bring them alive.
Sketch 11/365 (black man wearing suit, 1940s fashion woman, etc)
“Got to. This America, man…”
Suddenly I am making auto-bio comic strips, something I never did before and never intended to do. Why? Your guess is as good as mine.
Based on a true story that happened to me and my kid this afternoon, when I took him to this school that entertains kids whose parents can’t afford to go out on a real vacation trip. He took a while to get used to the new place and the other kids, but eventually he felt better and I managed to leave him there. If I ever continue this series, I have a couple more strips to extract from this strange adventure.
Today I watched a documentary about Charles Schulz. It was rather sad, and I think I learned a lot from his mistakes. But that doesn’t mean my strips are even half as good as his.
Making up for last night’s lack of post. Working on a new strip for tonight.
Comic strips. I never make them. I always loved them, but I never mastered the format. It’s harder than it looks.
But I think it must be great, for a rookie artist like me, to start with short narratives rather than 128-pagers.
Anyway, it’s just an idea. I don’t know where this is going to.
Punk rock girl - now available in Technicolor.
The flat colors were made in Indexed Color mode, with very few colors. After that I added the shadows using a cheating method. The t-shirt and the buttons have some actual photographs pasted on them.
Someday I might come back to this drawing and do a real color job, I liked it.
But first I need to learn how to color…
Cowboy - for @haverholm
I went for a realistic cowboy - no guns, and actual working clothes. There is even a cow on his belt buckle.
Wanted to study patters to draw on the boots, but no time for that.
The hand holding the had was real trouble, for I had no model to look at. Hands are already difficult enough to draw, let alone with a sheet of curved felt beneath them.
I love drawing cowboys. Will come back to the subject later on.
I wanted this to look dirty and gritty, but it’s too clean. I’ll try harder next time.
Inspired by a panel from a Wallace Wood WWI comic I was reading.
I have this 24-pages WWI comic I made once that I really want to redraw some day.
